Celtic Dragon: Hand Forged Steel : (2' x 4' x 5")

" Coal and ash revive revelations of former perceptions. In a maze of iron we are found again. Dichotomy shudders in the heat of the forge, and is smelt into a new and brighter alloy. As the opposites attract, so are they united: good and evil no longer distinct from each other as the fire of time collects on old debts. We will draw the knowledge from its sheath, ready to wield a sharpened mind to slice through the mystery of our condition. "

Inspired by the 11th century carvings at Urnes, Norway- where celtic artisans were brought over 1000 years ago to carve their knots in a new way. They turned from carving stone to wood, and the organic nature of the new material was clear in the results. Now I am visiting these forms again in a new material, and in a different age. The mask can be removed to reveal a different character, that of the lion.
